Chance me Transfer to NYU?

I have a 2.66GPA at a state flagship university and I am part of the newspaper and the debate team. I also work at a catering company and at the dining hall at my current college. I would like to transfer to NYU as a Junior. The reason my GPA is so low is because during my Freshman year I was only able to complete one semester and had serious family problems (my dad cheated on my mom and we left the house. I had to live with my aunt in her basement for three months while he got to stay in the house. He also didnt pay my college bill like he said he would and I was unable to afford it because he screwed up my parent's credit and I was unable to get loans.) The stress that was put on me at that time did a serious toll on me emotionally and I got a D+ in a class. If I explained my situation to NYU and got significantly high grades my Sophomore year to increase my GPA to about a 3.4, would I have a chance to transfer there? Thanks.
