What are some good things about new york city?

i'm 14, and want to move to new york when i graduate and go to NYU. they are VERY overprotective, and think new york is a very bad & dangerous place. yes, i am aware it is dangerous but im not stupid. i don't think they get that, but this is all i want to do, the only place i want to go. i dream of it, it's endless possibilities. Its the only place i want to be, even right now i'd love to live there. but they are completely against it. any things that i could tell them to win them over? thanks for the help!
